California pest concerns: start with the evidence

The same symptom can have more than one cause. Use the signs you observe to decide what to inspect, then confirm identification before choosing a treatment.

Termites inside wood, enlarged for reference

Termites & wood damage

California has subterranean, drywood and dampwood termite concerns. Shelter tubes, shed wings or pellets can help guide an inspection, but treatment depends on the termite type and extent of activity.

Drywood termites live in wood; subterranean termites commonly use soil and earthen shelter tubes. Ask the inspector which type is present rather than choosing tenting or a soil treatment from a photo.

Ant activity at the base of a wall

Ants around food & moisture

Record trails and entry gaps. Cleaning spills, storing food securely and fixing leaks help make a home less attractive to ants. Species identification matters when choosing bait or another control method.

Carpenter ants excavate wood for nesting; they do not eat wood like termites. Ant activity near damaged wood deserves closer identification.

Rat close-up for identification context

Mice, rats & entry points

Gnawing, nesting material and droppings are clues to rodent activity. Roof rats often use elevated spaces, while Norway rats commonly burrow. The inspection should address entry points as well as removal.

Ask for separate scope and pricing for trapping, exclusion, follow-up and any cleanup.

Understand treatment options and costs

A general ant visit, a bed bug program, rodent exclusion and termite treatment are different scopes of work. Ask for an inspection-based written quote that names the pest, areas covered, follow-ups, preparation and exclusions.

Compare the complete price

Include the initial fee, recurring payments, monitoring, renewal charges and any separate repair work. Monthly billing does not necessarily mean monthly visits.

Confirm the pest first

Bring clear photos and notes on where and when activity occurred. Ask the provider to explain the evidence and why the proposed treatment fits the problem.

Before hiring a California pest control provider

Verify credentials

Use the California Structural Pest Control Board’s license-search guidance to look up the provider. Select Structural Pest Control Board in the DCA search to narrow results.

Get the scope in writing

Confirm the identified pest, treatment method, included areas and visits, preparation, price and warranty terms. Ask whether termite coverage includes retreatment, specified repairs or neither.

Confirm local availability

Provide your city and ZIP code. Ask the provider about scheduling and whether the proposed service is available for your property and pest issue.

California pest control FAQs

Does a listed city mean service is guaranteed?

No. These links lead to city information articles. Coverage and appointment availability depend on the provider, ZIP code, property and pest. Confirm the details before booking.

Is Bro’s a California pest control branch office?

Bro’s is a pest control connection resource. This hub is not a list of physical offices. Ask which company will perform the inspection or treatment and verify its credentials.

What if my city is missing?

Clear the filters, try another spelling or use the California article search. You can also request help with your city and ZIP code. A missing article is not a service-availability determination.

Are termites treated the same way throughout California?

No single treatment fits every infestation. Termite type, extent, access and the structure affect the plan. Ask an inspector to explain whether localized treatment, a soil treatment, a bait system or a whole-structure approach is appropriate.
